We do a lot of animal rescues. In fact, we currently have 7 dogs and 9 cats. I think rescued animals make the most wonderful pets. They are always full of gratitude and love. : )

My "adopted pet" actually adopted me...he turned up one rainy night in my village, soaked to the skin and when I put my hand down to "talk" to him he bit it !...and refused to let go (yow)...so I dragged him up the path and fed him.

Having reported to relevant authorities to try & find owner and heard from neighbours he had been spotted following a jogger, near a motorway service station 3 miles away & we assume abandoned...after a month (UK) the police said I could keep him.
He was a complete monster for first 9 months but after 3 years (this month - our anniversary !) of love, security and attention he seems happy here & I wouldnt part with him for the world...Black Labradors may be crazy as young'uns but they are well worth it and reward you a thousand-fold

I have ten cats, all rescued from my area that came to our house to eat. When they, finally, let us pet them, we trap them, spay them and keep them. We are at our limit now, but I will advertise in the paper for adoption to an indoor home only. Six of these kitties are ours. They seem like they know how lucky they are and turn out to be wonderful pets.

I always feel so sorry for the animals that people throw away, like they don't have any feelings. I wish that I could take care of all the homeless animals, but I can't take care of the world.

This rescue bit has become a real racket here in California. You would not believe the prices for rescued animals, and the cronyism among the rescuers. It is a disgrace.

Two cats adopted us over the years. The male was a huge black DSH called Midnight. He actually adopted five families in our neighborhood. I wrote an article called "The Midnight Connection" for our local newspaper about it.

Nights and breakfast at our house, morning by the pool at another's, crab for lunch at a third, afternoons at another, and dinner at a fifth. California cats!

I have never kept a cat imprisoned in my home, and they all lived to at least seventeen.

I have also raised two dogs from rescue, a Malti and a Yorkie.

My most recent is a cat that some awful person dropped at the campground we go to. She came onto our site extremely thin and had a hurt leg. I had to feed her. At first she would not let us touch her. She would smack or bite us. Now she's adopted us. She is so sweet and loving. I can't understand how anyone could have just dumped her liked that.

Yes our Jack Russell, Cookie. She had been left
in a large kennel with no food or water for 12 or longer in an apartment . The person who found her asked me to take the dog to the pound, well I showed her to my husband and he said YES. I asked him, "this is what I want for Christmas (2005) and nothing else!" So we have Cookie from day one was so grateful to go to vet for check up and nutrition advice at about 1 year old she weighed a measley bone-y 8 pounds or so.

She has such a gentle nature and loves to nap on our laps or in a little corner or other favorite the couch, she is the most loving sweet caring doggie. She is very healthy and loving and I could not live without her. I cannot someone left her alone like that. Oh cookie loves car rides and her baby Yorkie we got 3 months later so she could help raise him. They are quite the pair. No kids so spoiled loving doggies for us.

Yes! Three days before this past Christmas, a 5 Year old Boston Terrier named Chachi showed up in my yard. I kept him through the holidays hoping his owner would return from vacation and claim him. I soon found out that he was hit by a car 3 years ago and barely survived! He had all kinds of broken bones and his jaw was broken in 6 places and had to be wired. He bit his tongue so hard that it caused permanent nerve damage and now it hangs out all the time. I also found out that he lived down the street and he was ABANDONED when the people moved across town. He is the sweetest dog! He has to be spoon fed can food because his tongue just does not cooperate in the eating and drinking process.

He basically scoops up the water when he drinks and of course his whole face gets wet. He drools because he cannot close his mouth completely. We had his teeth cleaned right away because his breath was terrible and the vet had to pull 3 teeth and remove a wire that had been left in the back of his mouth 3 years ago! How on Earth someone could deny this sweet baby a good warm home I will never understand! He loves to play, especially with a ball. He is smaller than normal and will lay on my lap and sleep for hours! I just love him so much! His nickname is Cookie because he will steal your cookies if you leave them out within his reach! He has been such a sweet addition to our household!

We rescued a little dog the day before we got married. She turned out to be the best dog either of us had ever had. At the time we thought she was a mix of who knew how many different breeds. But 12 years later watching the AKC dog show, I found out she was a specific breed that I had never heard of before!

Now I'd give my eye-teeth to find another like her but haven't found one anywhere that didn't cost almost $1000 for one puppy!
