How can I tell if my wood floors are hardwood or laminate?

Wood floors have imperfections, such as knotholes, divots etc. some laminate can look like wood, but it is normally very very high end. Also, no two pieces of wood are alike, laminate is. Look for repeat patterns. wood has a thudding sound because the sound wave has to travel deeper, lam has a more hollow sound. if all else fails, take a pin size drill bit and drill a small holes where no one will see, wood and laminate definitely have different types of dust and smell.

Hard wood floors come in small individual strips and laminate come in big pieces about 6 inches wide and 4 feet long. Look at the floor closely and you will be able to tell where the laminate starts and finishes and not on hard wood.
