Max D. Bear is 15 years old. He is part Rhodesian Ridgeback and part Chow and all sweetheart. We rescued him as a puppy from the local animal shelter.

I think I have the same mix tell me what you think, for sure half chow. But she has the line on her back more pronounced when shes around other animals.
Looks like my male chow shepard mix..chows have the solid purple mouth..only chows. Lots of dogs have sheppard type traits. Ridgebacks with no opposites growing hair wrent ridgebacks..all dog have hackles along their backs that rise when afraid, trying to look aggressive and such.look up nationaldogshoow.com and go to breeds..scroll down thru them..al beautiful.but if u click on rhodesian ridgeback in hound group..learn
I believe the Shar-pei breed also have black or purple tongues. A spotted tongue is a sign of interbreeding.

My Cinnamon was a Chow/ridgeback mix that had the Chow coat with the ridgeback and temperment. She loved her cats. Would hide behind me while barking at someone that she didn't know. Lived on my Dad's show pig farm while getting back on my feet and if a pig got loose she would herd the pig back to where it was supposed to be.
Why cant you keep him? I just lost my mix like Max st only 9 to cancer. His littermate female is lonely and picky..
