Shop Locally When Sending Flowers

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 288 Posts

Having been a floral designer for almost 20 years I can tell you this is true. You get the best flowers for your money when you talk to directly to the florist that is going to make and deliver your gift. They can tell you what is in season and what colors they have that week. They will tell you what kind of containers and prices. Or you can send boxed/wrapped flowers, more flowers for the money without a fancy container/vase. If you want a high style arrangement, expect to pay more with less flowers.

One of my favorites to send is miniture roses and baby's breath in a rose/ ivy bowl. They are not very big (good for hospitals) but last several days. They also make nice get well, birthdays, anniversary, thinking of you, etc. gifts.

Most florists have a minimum for delivery. So sending a single rose in a bud vase or 3 carnations in a bud vase might be all you get unless you can talk to the florist directly. Sending a single rose is ok to do if that's what you want though. Many people do that all the time. Just be aware that you should be getting what you pay for.

With Valentines day coming up, roses and carnations will be at a premium. Ask the florist if they have a special design for the holiday. Order early and have them delivered a few days ahead of time. That way you'll get the choicest flowers and not be taking a chance they are delivered into the late evening, or next day. And the same goes for Mothers Day and the rest of the holidays. Flowers bring joy, hope, love and comfort. Nothing better than flowers and hugs.
