Making a Climbing Plant Trellis With a Clothes Hanger

Make a trellis for your climbing plant (indoor or out). Shape the triangular part of a clothes hanger into any shape you like, then straighten the hook. Stick the straightened hook into the soil then train your plant around the the wire.

I also use tomato cages for my ivy and either wrap them up and down or around and around.

A picture would be nice, that way we at home can give it a try.

I use to have a nursery. You mentioned making a trellis out of tomato cages. I did exactly that. I also rented plants for weddings. What I would do is grow an Ivy on the tomato cage trellis and then add Calladiums for a splash of color, coleus would work too. Then I would invert the whole thing to look like Wedding Bells.

Your onto some thing good, keep up the good work

PS. You can run a string over the top of the soil, several times, in the beginning to hold the soil and plant in place when you invert it. It's best to let the plant dry out some before inverting it. If your ivy are already started, tie a string to a coat hanger and needle it through the ivy. Excuse my writing, I need more coffee.

You can find a picture of one on tipnut.com. Take a stake at least 1/2 in wide and however tall you want. Hangers are placed upside down with the hook down. Staple wire to stake and voile'- a trellis.
