What can I do to update my kitchen cabinets? They are pecan finish and they still look great so I don't want to change the color. The problem is they have center pulls to open them, yep, right smack dab in the middle of the door. How can I change that look without ruining the entire door? The pulls are drilled through with one large screw holding them on.

You could invest in small wooden 'medallions' or whatever shapes these wood 'carvings' come in. They are sold in most places that sell home remodeling things; usually is the woodwork sections and have flat surfaces on the back. Stain them to match your cupboard color or maybe even a shade different for contrast. Glue this over the center hole where the knob is now. Then buy new hardware and drill the holes where you like the handles to be. A whole new look!
You can buy wood filler or caulk to fill the hole. Some of the bigger hardware stores, like a Menards or Lowe's, sell the stuff in different colors and wood tones. You might discover what matches best through trial and error.
Try filling the hole on one cabinet. Wait for it to dry. If needed, use a swab and dab on a drop of shiny varnish over the plugged hole so it blends in with the rest of the shiny cabinets.
If it looks okay then you can fill them on all the cabinets and drill new holes for the new knobs. Good luck.
Good ideas all. I love a country look, so why not put the new handles on, then hot glue a button that is different for each door, over the hole? Got some magnets you love or little keepsakes? If they are plastic or resin cast and will hold up under cooking steam and/or grease splatters, they will give a whimsical cast to each door.
Do you keep Tupperware in one and flour in another, dishes in one place and cups/mugs in a special cabinet? Get a Tupperware magnet for one, a mini mug for another, a little flower bin for one, etc. Customize each cabinet so everyone will know what is in there, and cheer your kitchen cabinets up!
One last thing, keep the knobs on after you put the new ones on and hang things from them like dish towels, photos of grand kids, small wall hangings or flowers. When you do your remodel, share it with us!
