Keeping a Jacket Hood On?

I just bought a jacket with a hood. The hood is just about right but has no closure to keep it in place in the wind and rain. It doesn't have any extra material either. Just fits. Any ideas of how to keep this closed?

I tried 2 little squares of Velcro but it makes the hood too tight. I am not talented enough to add material and shoe lace has no place to go. There is fur around the hood. There is fullness at the top but nothing extra where the hood meets.

i would think a frog type button would work which is a loop on one side and the same loop on the other side but has a long button on the end of that loop and you loop the button through the open loop other side. each one is about2-3 inches long. they come in a set and some have wooden buttons. but most are just this thick cording which you loop closed by sewing one to each side then looping.

here is an example on ebay. just search for frog under the craft section. these are also sold in walmart craft department and hanncock fabrics and cost about $2 each per set they come in differant colors as well. hope that helped.cgi.ebay.com/Lot-of-12-pr-Frog-Closure-Buttons...

Wearing a scarf is the simplest solution, but look to the inside of the hood, put a safety pin (or stitch) in the center back. Use a matching ribbon to to bring forward and tie under chin. Good luck:)

Try using longer pieces of velcro.

I got some really big hook and eyes and this did the trick. the hood is a little too tight but stayed on in the 60 mile winds we had yesterday. Thanks everyone for your excellent advice!

I sewed one button, stud or shank on each side of hood (measured for closure. Used elastic cord or rubber band to connect. Worked. Not fancy, although, I think you could make it fancy.
