Luxury Salt Glow (Scrub)

This is the easiest scrub recipe around and probably the best. I've made lots of different scrubs and tested many recipes but always come back to the basic one because it works best. Makes incredible gifts!

  • 1 cup sea salt (fine)
  • 1/2 cup light oil (a combination of grapeseed and almond is good)
  • 1/2 tsp vitamin E (you can break open capsules)

  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp essential oils or fragrance
  • 1 tbsp dried herbs or flowers (optional)

Place everything in a bowl and stir well. Store in glass jars (recycled baby food jars, caning jars, spice jars...) You can use a few drops of food colouring but I like to keep it natural looking!

Ideas:

  • 1/8 tsp. lavender and 1/8 tsp. clary sage with dried lavender for a stress relief blend)
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon essential oil 1/4 tsp. orange EO for a circulation blend.
  • 1/8 tsp. Rosemary and 1/8 tsp. Peppermint for an invigorating blend (with dried mint leaves)
  • 1/8 tsp. ylang ylang and 1/8 tsp. patchouli for an aphrodesiac blend (with dried rose petals)

Source: This is my own recipe, as are the EO blends :)

Sounds really good. I'm wondering if I would trust the ingredients to my allergic tender facial skin? Not likely, as lovely as those fragrances are. However, I'd enjoy it as a bath soak that's not so directly in contact and can be diluted to a weaker strength?

What do you think? Sea salt is a common ingredient for bath soaks, you know. God bless you. : )

This scrub was not meant to use on the face, just the body which I should have written down :) For facial scrub recipes try here:

What's the difference between extract and oil?
What's the difference between carrier oils and essential oils?
What's the difference in the grapeseed or almond oil and the essential oils?
I'd like to add scent to this but am confused by all the descriptions.
Thanks,
Andrea

Extracts are alcohol based and for food. Essential oils can be found at your local health food store and are used for therapeutic purposes, they are made from plants/herbs/flowers and used by aromatherapists. Lavender is probably the easiest to get a hold of. Also try here:

Carrier oils are oils in which you can put essential oils into. Essential oils are not supposed to be used directly on the skin so a carrier oil is used.

Grapeseed has a greenish tint to it, almond oil is lighter in colour and shouldn't be used for people with nut allergies. Any light oil can be used but these two are less greasy than the traditional olive, canola and sunflower oils and have skin healing properties. Feel free to use any kind of oil though!
