This tip is something I saw my father do back in the fifties. We moved into an apartment that had those old fiber mat room carpets. It was alive with fleas. They absolutely covered you when you walked in.
He went to the local fruit/vegetable stand and got a banana stalk from from the owner. It cost him nothing as all bananas were pulled off that stalk. He brought it home, cut it up into links and spread the pieces around the rooms, within two days the fleas were gone and never came back. Has anyone else seen this done? I've often wondered if banana oil would serve the same purpose as they send bananas here in boxes now. I have my eye on some wild bananas across the way, and intend to snatch them when they come to fruit.

I heard this last Sunday for an elderly lady at church. Must be true. They put the stalk in the hen house.
My mama did the same thing with banana stalks. She would go to farmer's market and get several banana stalks and place them around our yard. We never had flees. Wish I could easily find banana stalks now. I'd use them faithfully in my back and front yard.
Stalks work and are very effective against fleas. You can also put down banana peels. The potassium is what kills them. Peels work right up to the point of being black.
When I was a little girl, we lived in Mobile Alabama on a beautiful property right next to Dog River. The house needed some fixing up and our a boxer was bringing fleas in; on him, my parents & happily living in the sofa.
I dont know what spray Products were available aside from Raid. Luckily, a neighbor told my mother about banana stalks. I remembered driving with her down to the port Where boats full of bananas were unloaded.
The backseats of cars were big then & shed load up empty banana stalks in ours. At home she would lay the banana stalks behind the couch, one under each bed and some outside and the fleas were gone!!!
