Refreshment Ideas for a Neighborhood Get Together?

My husband finished building a waterfall in the front of our home. We would like to invite less than 30 of our neighbors over after dinner to christen it. I have no idea what to serve. We are friends with all of these neighbors, but aside from bringing chairs I would rather not ask them to bring food or drink.

What are some ideas for us to have as refreshments? I want the invite to let them know that we won't be serving dinner. Thank you all for any help or clever ideas. We don't want it to get too expensive.

Vegetable trays are my favorite.

On invite state; lemonade and cookies or something like that. Tortilla pinwheels are quick and can be made a day
ahead and you can use different types of flour tortillas, like spinach or tomato.

Bar cookies are quick to put together. A 9x13 pan makes 12, after you cut them and they're out of the pan, cut each on in quarters. If you make 3 pans (maybe brownies, lemon bars and either another chocolate or a nut bar) you'll have 144 bite-sized pieces. Since it's after supper, serve with decaff coffee or wine or whatever punch you like.

If you don't have 3 pans you can either borrow or make them one after another, letting the pan cool between bars. I would line the pan(s) with foil then spray with non-stick spray. Have fun!

Veggie pizza! with some rolled up deli meats, crackers and a cream cheese spread.

The veggie trays are what we serve at get togethers, along with fruit trays, crackers, cheeses and dips.

An ice cream social, lots of toppings, a few flavors of ice cream, whipped cream, a bowl of cherries.

Since it is after dinner, I would go with coffee and dessert. You could serve some sort of squares like tennesue suggested or if you are a fabulous cook, go with something fancier like cheesecake or dessert squares made with jello pudding and such. There are tons of different recipes. You might want to serve lemonade or fruit punch as well, especially if there will be kids.

I wouldn't bother with veggie trays and fancy sandwiches, as everyone has just finished eating supper. An ice cream bar to let them make their own sundaes sounds like a good idea too, but you do have the problem of keeping the ice cream from melting.
