Can you use Elmer's school glue to cover Styrofoam before you paint it?

Why do you want to cover it before painting? is it the rough kind or smooth kind? If it is the first, craft glue might certainly smooth it out, but since school glue is usually water soluble, it might not work. I would try craft glue or artist's gesso (a canvas prep coating) If it is smooth, no need to prep in my experience. Elmer also makes glue for foam which might work better than the school glue. If u have a scrap you could try your idea out on, might be wise.
