Pet Safe Ways to Get Rid of Fleas?

I have three cats, and three dogs. We live in a somewhat small house. It is flea season, and I'm not exactly sure which route to go to get rid of these fleas. I am worried about setting off a bomb, because there are pets and children living here. I need a safe but sure way to rid these fleas. Please help.

There are several home remedies but to get advantage is the best..I wouldnt buy frontline as it doesnt work form my animals anymore.

Here is what I actually do for my dogs and house:

Sprinkle salt all over the carpet, under fitted sheets, and under covers on sofa, etc..just anywhere and leave for as long as you want and vacuum often. Also put pieces of a flea collar in the vacuum bag...some people put a plastic ziplock bag over the attachment of the vacuum cleaner but I don't.

Never use a flea collar on the pet...

I do the apple cider vinegar thing for my pets, not because of fleas but to get them less affected by yeast which they are allergic to..I put a lid full of apple cider vinegar into a regular pot full of water...the actual recipe is 1/4 tsp per cup of water. This takes about two weeks to work, and then it helps with flea control too.
You have to be religious about this, if you let is skip for two weeks or more they will start itching again, at least it has been my experience.

I also flea comb them, and the hairy ones, get baths all the time.

Have heard that skin so soft is great on them...some people find that citrus sprays on them work..I havent found this to work but maybe I am doing it wrong..LOL

Go to earthclinic.com and go to the pets tab. Lots of info there.

Note: Never use brewers yeast to treat fleas with , it almost killed my other dog who was extrememly allergic to the yeast.

Of course as with anything, if there is any problem quit using it!

I like to take a rag, wet with water and wrung out slightly on their coats every day or every other day and massage it down to the skin. it feels really good for them and they get their skin to being in good shape.

The better off a pets health is the better they will be able to deal with fleas.

Salt works good in carpet, but vacuum it up in a day or so as salt cuts carpet fibers over time. Borax works in the ground until it rains. It kills fly eggs, too. Sunlight dish soap for baths works. It kills the fleas. Lavender oil in water, misted on deters the fleas, but good luck misting a cat. I personally hate lavender, if you mix it too strong, you'll hate it. It is very overpowering.

If you have fleas in the house, place a lamp on the floor with a bowl of water under the light source. The fleas jump to the heat source, land in the bowl of water (I put salt or dish soap in the water) and drown.
A desk lamp works good because you can aim the bulb direction. Caution: Keep kids away from the lamp and water. Pets, too. It is best done at night, while everyone sleeps. The bowl will be full of fleas in the morning.
