Pigs, just like people, often have ideas of their own, especially when you're trying to load one onto a truck or into a trailer. Beating and/or attempting to reason with a stubborn porker under those conditions usually does little good, but if you put a bushel basket over his head, you'll be able to back the pig wherever you want him to go.

We have done this before by using a 5 gallon bucket over the pig's head. it works great. They will back right up the ramp and into the truck or trailer before they know what they have done!
Beating shouldn't be an option.

I am surprised that so many people have had experience loading pigs into trucks. I wonder if it would have worked with my sons when they were reluctant to get into the van when we were driving to school?
While I hope never to have occasion to load a pig into a truck, I'll definitely try it your way! Wonder if this would work with my mastiff? He's usually balky when it comes time to get into our van, then again, maybe not. Hmm...
Maybe the reason they don't want to get loaded into a truck/trailer is because they're afraid of being led to slaughter. Hmm.....
