What kind of glue do you use to shorten a suede skirt?

The only thing I'd even think of using is "Fabri-Tac"... You can machine wash & dry this glue & dry-cleaning it too! (It's sold at craft stores & Walmart) ...As a second option that's still good: "Unique Stitch" (sold at fabric stores)... The fabri-tac dries fast & it sets up quickly so you know what you've got right away... it's sort of like a "hot glue" for fabric... The Unique stitch dries more slowly & can also be drycleaned...

* When buying ANY fabric glue make sure you can do all 3 with them before you waste your money: Machine wash, machine dry & also dry-clean.

They both cost around $4. You'll know you have Fabri-tac because it's the only fabric glue that's sold in a clear bottle. Unique stitch comes in a tube. Even though these glues are made for fabric, I've used them on leather & suede... But you can always go on to the Tandy Leather Company's web page & they sell lots of leather glues & can give you advice if you e-mail them. (It's a great web site!)

* A HINT: To make a very straight & clean looking hem with suede, fold the suede over a thin metal ruler (or any straight edge) where you want the suede to bend (for the hem) & rub the side of the ruler & suede with a pen, pencil or knitting needle back & forth over the edge until a crease is formed... This will make the "fabric" of the suede bend straighter, cleaner & easier & your hem wont be curved. After you have your hem doesn't if it isn't laying flat you can warn it up with a blow dryer then use your fingers to flatten it.

Don't use glue - use Rescue Tape, available at Hancock, Joanns and Walmart. It's a clear double stick tape.

I had a tailor shop and that's all I used after one of my employees used too much glue and it bled through to the right side of the skirt.

Glue can also make the hem area rigid.

Cathy is absolutely right. I wear leather and suede all the time. Simple double sided tape does the trick. Turn the garment inside out and just tape it onto the bottom of the skirt or pants and fold to the needed length press it together and, presto! Any fabric store will have it in store. Never use any type of glue. Good luck.
