Walnut Rolls Recipe?

We were given at Christmas a tin of delicious somethings... I don't know what they are called but they were small squares of pie crust that was rolled around a filling which had walnuts, I think brown sugar, cinnamon and maybe flour. Does anyone know what they were and do you have a recipe? I would appreciate it.

Not sure if this is what you were thinking of but the first thing that came to mind was Rugelach. They sell it a lot at the Holiday season. But they are actually triangular pieces of dough rolled up. Very tasty. Many varieties but I think they usually are made with cream cheese in the dough.

was it baklavah?? (meditarranean pastry) layers of pastry dough with nuts/etc honey drizzled inside and out, comes in many shapes

I give out similar cookies at christmas:

Nut filled Horns

2 c. butter softned
2 8oz pks cream cheese softned
2 egg yolks
4 1/2 c. All purpose Flour

2 tsp. Baking Powder

Filling:

4 c. Finley Chopped Walnuts
1 1/2 c. sugar
6 tbs. evaporated milk
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

1. In a large bowl, cream butter and cream cheese. Add egg yolks. Combine Flour and Baking Powder, in separate bowl, gradually add to creamed mixure--Cover and Chill Over night.
2. In large Mixing bowl combined filling ingredients ( mixture will be thick). Divide dough into fourths (dough will be sticky). On a well sugared surface, roll out each portion into 12 in. x 10 in rectangle. Cut into 2 in. squares. Place about 1 tsp. filling in the center of each square. Fold over two opposite corners, seal tightly. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15-18 min or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Your description sounds a lot like baklava, a Greek holiday treat. Yummy! Does it taste like it has honey in it instead of sugar?

Sounds like rugelach to me, too. There are many recipes. Many use preserves in the middle instead of nuts and cinnamon, too.

I was amazed nobody recognized your treats, lol Here is your recipe:

Hungarian Kolache

Ingredients for Dough:
1-cup soft butter
3 cups sifted flour

1 package yeast
2 tablespoons warm water
3 egg yolks
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla

Ingredients for Filling:
3 cups walnut meat, ground
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup milk
Mix together.

Directions:
Cut flower with butter and soften yeast in water.
Add sour cream, vanilla. Mix together and chill for a few hours
Roll dough 1/8 inch thick and cut 3" squares. Add 1 teaspoon filling in each square. Moisten edges with water and fold together, pressing firm. Bake in an ungreased baking sheet at 375 for 15 minutes.

This one actually sounded like Kefle Cookies to me. They are also extremely good and tender...as long as you don't overmix the dough. We did that one year and they were as tasty as shoe leather.

Pastry:
1 8 oz pkg cream cheese
1/2 lb butter
2 1/2 c flour
1 egg yolk

Filling:
1/2 lb English walnuts, ground fine
1/2 c sugar
2 Tbs. milk
1/4 tsp lemon juice
gratedd rind of 1/4 lemon
1 tsp cinnamon

Mix cheese and butter tlll smooth-add egg yolk. Roll our 1/4 of the dough into a floured board VERY thin. Cut into 2 1/2 in squares or use biscuit cutter. Place 1/2 tsp filling in center and pinch edges closed. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 for 20 mins. Brush with egg white before baking. Repeat with remaining dough, 1/4 at a time, keeping unused dough in the fridge until time to roll.
