Securing Buttons With Nail Polish

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 169 Posts

As a very lazy person who hates to sew on buttons I started doing this several years ago. When I put a button on a garment, new or not, I dot the threads with a little bit of clear nail polish. I have only done this for cottons and other heavy duty fabrics such as denim and corduroy. I wouldn't recommend it for silk or other nice fabrics. I also do this when making stuffed toys for my granddaughter. It will keep the eyes in place.

I use fabric glue, it lasts longer. Or Jewel-It, which is even better. I never lose a button. Just a dot on the inside or outside, directly on the thread.

I use Fray Check on the back threads of buttons I've sewn on a garment. I also use Jewel-it especiallly for attaching things( not just buttons) to my projects. It takes a little while to dry but is worth it!

Interesting! As I myself am also a lazy person I prefer the old Krazy Glue for any and all fastenings... never tried it on sewing though, If I get less than 6 feet from any sewing instruments and they spontaneously combust LOL!
