Disinfecting Used Shoes?

How do you clean shoes that have been previously worn? Is there some kind of home remedy or disinfectant spray?

I have always used disinfectant spray, and sprayed every crevice and air dry. I saw them do this at a ski shop, and in bowling alleys, so I timed one, about a 5 second spray. I have never had a problem with used shoes. Actually, it is good to do them with new shoes too, because you never know how many people tried them on.
