Garage Organization Tips

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 181 Posts

Reclaim the space in your garage by using the ceiling. You can store bikes and other items overhead with the help of a lift mechanism. Use your wall for storage. Install shelves and cabinets to put items out of sight. Have zones of function. Decide how the space should work for you, and what to store there. Make a place for laundry, tools, deep freeze, and the car.

With your organized plan, bet you rarely lose anything. Love your tips! Storing the car in the garage - what a novel idea! (rotfl! Sorry, just couldn't resist teasing!)

If you have an older (and smaller) garage, use the space between the studs. My DH cut 6" diameter PVC pipe into 4" sections, drilled a couple of holes in one side, and screwed these into the walls between the studs at various heights to hold long handled tools and plant stakes. Tools with the "D" handles hang on giant plastic coated hooks screwed into the studs.

He also built a loft over the back third of the garage and we store the lawn furniture there. The bicycles hang from the rafters on more of those plastic coated hooks. It is the most organized space we have.
