Sprinkle Salt on "Out of Control" Bubbles

Have you or your kids ever added too much laundry detergent to your washing machine, and found that the bubbles were beginning to overflow? Next time, sprinkle some salt on the excess suds and watch them disappear.

Instead of sprinkling salt, pour in some liquid fabric softener. It knocks the suds right down, and makes the clothes soft at the same time! I know this works, because my niece and I dumped soap powder in her sauna as a joke, and this was the only way we could get the bubbles down!

Another effective antifoam is, believe it or not, soap! Soap can defoam the foam of other surfactants, but it has to be real soap, and the water has to have at least a little "hardness" in it.

You may have noticed the defoaming effect of soap on bubble baths.

but why is it that the salt makes the foam go down?
