Putting Samplers to Use

I often teach my children basic embroidery stitches using simple designs. If you are helping a little one to do stitching, this is a nice way to put the sample pieces to use. Stitched bird sampler.

Add a backing with some lively scrap fabric by stitching inside out, and then reversing. Stitch up the opening, then stitch a final border around the little art piece.

Perfect little coasters that make nice gifts for teachers, grandparents, aunties, fathers, mothers, etc.

Making something, instead of just doing a sampler, makes the project even more fun.

I would purchase a set of four! Do you have any for sale? That could be a great fund-raiser!

Great idea!I have TONS of embroidery patterns that i use. My children use them to practice and i have A LOT of little projects. This will definitely finish them off. Thanks A LOT!

The kids that I teach (in India) are from rather impoverished backgrounds, and we do indeed sell these as a fundraising project when I go back to the States -- for a Learn and Earn Project that exposes the older children to possible vocations and skill training. I am so happy to hear your positive comments!

I don't really have patterns but collect lots of little designs. Keep these really simple for children: suns, stars, trees, swirlies, birds, flowers, etc. We also make really cute tote bag patches!
