Making Dog Treats Using Cheerios?

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 364 Posts

Dog got into a large box of Cheerios. He opened the wax wrapper, but nothing spilled out. They aren't fit for human consumption now, but it would be a shame to waste the food. How can I prepare it suitably for the dog (bars, cookies, etc.)? He is a big dog, he'll eat anything. Thanks.

Why not just pour the Cheerios into his dog dish?

If these are the "plain" Cheerios (i.e., not sugar-coated, or "honey-flavored"), just mix the cereal along with his regular food. Easy, simple, and he'll thank you! It seems this cereal is beneficial to many animals...fish included. My pond koi and goldfish love 'em! I do have to break each piece into about four little pieces so they'll be small enough for their little mouths, tho'.

I just grab each piece and pinch it between my fingers and toss them in their pond. It's a feeding frenzy just watching them fighting for a piece! They actually prefer the Cheerios over their regular pond pellets. Hm! Who would've guessed?

At first he didn't want them in his dog dish (that's why I asked about making a treat), but yesterday he decided they were interesting enough to eat.

My mom uses cheerios for her dog's treats and they love them.

Cheerios have a surprisingly high sodium content. Please use sparingly.

My friend's baby kept having diahrrea (sp?), so she took her to the Dr. When the Dr. inquired about the baby's diet, my friend told him what all she feeds her daughter.

The Dr. said to quit feeding her Cheerios cereal, as it's known for it's laxative effect.

I put Cheerios in my dog's kong toys. She loves to bounce them about and watch them fall out. She gobbles them up!

If you soak the cheerios in any liquid (milk, water, etc) and then microwave them for like 4 o 5 minutes, it makes them super hard and tough. Good for strengthening dogs jaws and cleaning their teeth!

If it is without the choco flavoring or any other coating you may just mix the cereal along with his regular food. Or, you can give it to him as a training treat if you're having sessions with your dog.

Dogs love the crunch and the slight sweetness cheerios bring.
