Newspaper Pots

I take a large Foldgers coffee can and put a folded sheet of newspaper over the top, I then take a smaller coffee can and gently push the paper inside to form the pot, making sure that the sides are folded in as I go along. Be careful when pushing it in as the bottom will tear if you push too hard on the can.

Yes, what is this used for? What kind of pot are you making?

Hi
I think these pots are for seed plantings. when the seeds have become small hardy plants with at least 4 proper leaves, and are hardened off, the entire pot can be planted without disturbance to the root ball.

A similar idea is appropriate for sweet peas. Collect loo/ toilet paper cardboard rolls for seed planting.Set them closely together in a tallish container like an ice cream tub. This keeps them upright and shares their moisture- you may need to wrap plastic around the protruding cardboard.
Fill 1/2 with compost, then the seeds, then top up with compost. Water sparingly, do not make them soggy. In due course the entire 'pot' can be planted. it biodegrades effectively. Frugal! cool! try it!

You can use these pots to plant larger seedlings in and then plant the whole thing outside. You could also just make smaller newspaper pots and use for the same purpose it makes transplanting very easy since you can plant the pot.
