Have your wedding later in the evening and serve desserts only instead of a full dinner. It is no longer a "must" to serve a full meal as long as your ceremony and reception are late enough for the guests to eat before they arrive. For our backyard wedding, we had a "dessert buffet" that looked very classy but was only a fifth of the cost of serving full meals, plus it left us more time to have fun with our guests!

This is a wonderful idea. So classy, and such a saving.
back in 1995 when I married, we did
a dessert wedding. Our invite stated
Champagne & Cake Reception.
We did offer some cheese cracker trays
and cold cut trays and some other small things.
oh that is just were they got their chocolate
for their coffee shop and cakes. I did not
special order it. And the cost was CHEAP I was
a regular at the coffee shop and they became
It's a lovely idea and I totally agree, you need to have the full sit down wedding breakfast. Some other ideas for cheaper wedding food are:
- Cheese and wine
- Canapes only
- Afternoon tea
- Salad buffet (with lots of bread and potatoes)
- Hog roast
- BBQ
- Serve up your favourite traditional dish, like sausage and mash, pie or meatloaf.
They'll all cut your costs dramatically. Enjoy.
