I have indoor bamboo, it is in a porcelain pot, with small rocks. As I said I have in indoors on a mantle that really does not get any sunlight, it is close to a window but does not get any sun. The leaves were light green. I was giving it a combination of tap water and bottled water, some times miracle grow. The water got moldy and the stalks got some black and gray spots on them, the water also had film. This is when I would put the water all the way up at the top. I decided to put the bamboo outside, I drained the water and put fresh water in with miracle grow. It is on a porch where it gets good sunlight for half the day, I usually alternate the side it is on to get sun all day. My leaves were a little brown and crispy, now they are totally yellow and whitish, please help me what should I do?

I have had Bamboo since last June in water with stones. Mine is growing nicely and very green. I have not used anything but plain tap water. We have well water so it has no chlorine. If you have Chlorine in your water this might be killing it. Mine does not have any kind of a film on it either. This could be the Miracle Grow on your water. I have not fed mine with anything. It does not get direct sun, but does get lots of light. I would recommend washing everything and then using nothing but plain water and see if it sprouts out again.
omg bamboo is a shade loving plant! They only grow in shade! You must change the water at least about 2 times a week, nothing is needed to add.
I also bought a bamboo plant(3 stalks) in a little pot with rocks. I also put it near a window but no direct light. Two of the stalks are thriving, dark green and growing new leaves, but the other turned yellow , then turned black and mushy.
Thanks but I need immediate feedback now. I took out my bamboo from the pot, and washing all my rocks and the pot to get the scum and mold out. My roots are orange and very brittle, should I cut the stalk a little bit so the roots can grow back in fresh, should I cut them , I need answers now, If so where do I cut them.PLEASE HELP NOW!
Editor's Note: It might be best to cut the stalk and let it reroot. Don't put anything but water in with it, leave out the plant food for now. It can be in a bright place but not in direct sunlight. The Happy Bamboo which is what I think you have grows under trees so never gets direct sunlight. It may be too late to save it but it's worth a try.

Should I stand it up in just water without the rocks or with the rocks to let it re root. I just want to make sure.
Wash everything and trim off yellowing leaves and cut back any soft or dried stems. Plant it back in the stones and use nothing but plain water. Hopefully, it will reroot and sprout new leaves. I have had mine for a year now and never changed the water, only added when needed, and never used any plant food and mine is beautiful and green and has really grown since I got it.

i went to a gift shop and brought a beautiful bamboo plant, and the owner told me she uses nothing but rain water on hers, i brought 3, one died, but i use tap water on all three, then the last one starter turning brown, so i started using rain water, no stones, just water and they are growing beautiful now, i had even cut some branches off and have 5 more plants now.
Hello there. I live in gulf region in Bahrain. I brought three stalks of bamboo plants and have kept them in water with some blue transparent stones (marbles). I have not placed them near the sunlight but they are placed in a bright room the problem with them is that they are not growing well the leaves are curled up, and going brown usually after 15 days.
