Dealing With Facial Hair?

I went to get my facial hair lasered and because it costs so much ($160 per visit) I only went 3 times, thinking that would help my problem. But no, now since I've stopped I have MORE hair then what I went in with! I have side burns and I am not liking that at all! I have to shave now, my chin (which I call my chinables), my upper lip, and under my chin.

I'm only 39 and have been doing this for about 2 years now. I'm so disgusted with all this hair, that I shave secretively so noone knows, I hope no one knows! Any words of advise out there from you ladies? I know you'll think its a hormonal thing, but I had that all checked and I'm fine. Everything is right where it should be, so now what? Summer is coming and I don't want the five o'clock shadow! Help!

Have you tried depillatories? You want something that doesn't just cut, but pulls the hair out at the root. The American Indians just tweezed their facial hair - I would recommend that - especially for sideburns & your chin, etc.

I tweeze - but my problem had come with age - and my hair is very blond - oh, that's another option, try to lighten your facial hair - No expert, but I hope some of this helps.

When I went through the laser hair removal the cost per visit became less and less. I would encourage you to find another provider who uses such a lowering-pay-scale. You've got to keep up the visits and don't stop them until you are satisfied your hair is gone. I stopped when my provider said she thought I was done and I wish I hadn't and now I cannot afford it again. I'm still plucking what I consider a bothersome amount today but it beats having to shave, which I did for 17 years. Like you, I began having hair where I didn't have it before but this was because the provider shaved my face/neck where she applied the laser. Naturally she shaved where I had not, thus the new hair. Bottom line - don't stop those laser visits.

Perhaps there is a school that teaches how to perform laser treatments which provides services at a much lower cost. I know where I live, there is a dental school at the junior college that performs procedures at a minimal cost. Also at a different college, a person can get braces at a cost reduction.

Beauty Schools do this with perms and hair cuts. It may be something to look into. The "student" has to be monitored by the professional. Good luck to you!

I'm 36 and I have dark sideburns and upper lip and chin hair, too... I shave and pluck because I can't afford the laser treatments. Tweezing can become too tedius -- especially if you have a lot of hair (not to mention it's painful). I think us, women, fixate on this stuff, too much. It seems as we get older, we ALL experience facial hair to some degree. I say just shave it and be done with it (it's quick and relatively painless).

I've been using an Epilady on my legs since the 90s. I have very few leg hairs now. I just use the Epilady on my facial hair. It works best right after I shower and it may tak a while the first few times.

By no means am I connected to the service I am about to tell you about.
American Laser Centers.. www.americanlaser.com I don't even know the town you are in but I am in Alabama and I went to the one in Birmingham and I had horrible hair and it is almost gone.

FIRST OF ALL 3 treatments is not enough to do anything with. It starts to wake up hair and grows with 3 treatments. It will take more. Possibly up to 10 and some Dr's and Laser Center of America will give you X amount of treatments for a flat fee. What I like about Laser Center is I had 7 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. Now when I am finished with my last one IF THERE IS ANY HAIR that did not die I will get two years free treatments UNTIL it is gone.

A person with strong facial hair usually take 6 or more treatments. I think having my face and my feet I paid 1000.00 and that was a deal! And now when I got back after my last treatment in February IF there is one hair where there is not suppose to be one..FREE for two years! That is great. Shop around. Chris sadiemaesattic AT aol.com if you want to email me personally and I will give you some numbers to call to find if there is a center near you. I know 1000.00 is expensive BUT I had to think.. Did I want to go the rest of my life looking like my husbands son? And it was worth every penny.

I would just wax it at home with an at-home kit. The hair grows in thinner and some doesnt come back at all. I do my moustache and chin every few months.

Waxing, Waxing, Waxing :-) Doesn't sound fun but the longer you wax the less hair will grow back because the hair roots eventually become permanently damaged from the pulling :-) You might always need to wax but it's a lot less expensive to do at home and eventually there will be 'a lot less' hair growth :-)

You said that your hormones were just fine and they were normal. I watched Oprah the other day and they were talking about hormones and they said when a dr. says your hormones are alright or normal, go to another dr. because they are normal for who. What might be normal for one is not normal for everyone. So you need to go thru extensive test to see if your hormones are normal for you. I hope this helps you.

Sally Hansen Facial Hair Removal is a great product. You put it on and leave it for 8 minutes only. Then wash it off and everything has magically disaappeard. Check it out and make sure you read the directions thoroughly before using.

There's a cream product by prescription - Vaniqua - that works. I had electrolysis for years, & I still have some chin hairs. The medicine works, but is not covered by my insurance.

Merle Norman Cosmetics used to carry a facial hair cream called Surgicream. It was very effective. I dont know if they still carry it or not. Hope this helps.

Have you been checked to make sure you don't have polycystic ovary syndrome? This can cause facial hair.

I had polycystic ovarian disease and had excess hair. I used every method of hair removal and finally had electrolysis done on my face. It took 3 years and quite expensive but it was worth it, not for cosmetic reasons, but I had burnt my face with waxes, cut with razors, side effects from hair removal creams, it was caused from a medical condition and I feel like hair removal should be covered by insurance.

Let me clue you, as a dental hygienist I know, the wide majority of women shave and call it good.

I have to tell you a story about removing the hair on my upper lip, and yes you can giggle.
When my daughter was about 3, she wanted to visit the neighbors next door who were sitting on their back patio. She did this on a regular basis, so it was no big deal. I would look out the window and check on her every once in awhile. After she left I put on my facial hair remover cream. I usually left it on for about 15 minutes. It must have been about 10 minutes later when I put my nose up to the window screen to ask her if she was being good. I also chatted with the neighbors for a few minutes too. Then, all of a sudden, I remembered! Here I was standing and chatting with my facial cream on. I can only hope they thought I had just finished a big glass of milk. They never said a word, and I never brought it up.

I saw a beautiful 40-year-old Japanese woman on TV over 30 years ago, and she said her radiant complexion was because she had been shaving her face since she was in her early teens - she said all Japanese women do that; it's their beauty secret on how to "sluff off" dead skin! I've been doing it ever since with great results!

My daughter has a similar problem and she is only 23, the Dr's all said her hormones were just fine. After more than 4 years of suffering with this she happened to mention it a new Dr, while discussing her history. The new Dr checked her history, ordered new tests and discovered irregular hormone levels, that probably were not that off when the original tests were done. My point being, have your hormones tested again and if you don't agree with the first Dr., find one who will actually listen. There is medication available for you.

I just get one of those little battery operated shavers and use that. They work great! Sometimes I shave my mustache when I am in the shower with hubby's dull razor-it is sharp enough for me and no cuts. Just use a little soap for suds.

I get my chin and eyebrows waxed on a monthly basis. If some hairs appear on my chin in between, I take a manicure scissor and trim them off. I go to one or the other of the two beauty schools in my town.

I think the advice about shaving, given by several, is very poor advice. Shaving will make that hair grow back more coarse so you will end up with a beard rather than some soft fuzz or hairs. I think it will also make the hair grow back darker.

I have been getting electrolysis for about three years. I was told at the beginning of my treatments, that because I had tweezed for so many years, each follicle now had several roots that had different growth rates which would take a lot longer. Had I never tweezed it could be done a lot faster, probably once a week for several months for the different growth rates and then periodically after that. I live in Northern Virginia and pay 60 dollar for 30 minutes and 100 for an hour.
