Well I have an idea but it requires time and .. well one person could do it but I would think two would make it easier.

Okay here is the base of the idea: How well does nail polish hold up applied to different nail surfaces? For example; nail polish applied to a bare nail, nail polish applied to a roughened nail (emery board), nail polish applied to a buffed nail, nail polish applied to a treated nail (clear coat first).

We have here four different ways to treat a nail. Prepare one finger on each hand a different way. For example for just a plain finger nail we'll leave the pinky finger on the left hand and the pointer finger on the right hand alone. This tests a nail condition on each hand and in a different location on each hand.

Record which fingers you prepare and how.

Take a digital picture when you have all the fingers done (hold the hands beside each other with thumbs tucked under. Take a picture in the morning and in the evening. You will need someone's help to take the pictures.

You may want to record what was don during that day.
Do the comparisons for a week or two, Until all finger nails show considerable wear.

You can probably stretch out the observation like with what activities do the most damage, Do any fingers nails suffer more than others because of location.

Only use one polish, not multiple unless you want to do cheap polish on one hand and expensive polish on the other.
