Customized Wood Products Business?

I am trying to start a business in customized wood products. Does anyone have any ideas how to start this because I have very little money.

I suggest to put a small ad in newspaper, put a small sign in front of your place, and take samples to fleamarkets. Have yard sales; go where people are like laundries where people wash clothes. Make pamplets, put them on cars in shopping malls & parking lots, good luck.

A friend and her husband went to flea markets with their things and had some cards made to pass out. They customized items and people would order by calling them.

They used scrap lumber for the smaller things which they cleaned up from housing projects.

You could try craft fairs & eBay, too. In my town, a man has a good business making signs for homes with the house numbers. Good luck!

When my daughters had a small craft store, they found that selling instead at Street Fairs and by word of mouth was less of an exense for them. Especially if you can personalise right there. Customers tend not to purchase if they can't walk away with the item!

Make sure you charge 2.5-3 x the material costs. (Wood, blades, primer, paints, Glue, ect.) Also try Craigs list. Photos help as you have already done! Good Luck

Try www.etsy.com It is a website where folks can sell the things they make, and they charge a lot less than ebay, plus the item stays on sale for longer. Check it out. I'm going to. I make wooden personalized Christmas ornaments, have sold on ebay for years but this year I am going to try etsy.
