Unleavened Bread

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1/4 tsp. butter flavoring
  • 3 egg whites (beaten)

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Fold in flavoring and stiffly beaten egg whites. Dough will be stiff. Grease and flour jellyroll pan. Spread dough on pan with spatula that has been dipped in milk. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes until it browns slightly. Cut into 1/2 inch cubes. Freezes well.

This is not unleaved bread, as it contains beaten egg white. when beaten egg whites are added to a recipe it is used as a raising agent, totally leaven!

This is not unleavened bread because the recipe calls for a 1/2 tsp. of baking powder which, by itself, is a leavening agent. This will also raise the bread.
