Fabric Freshener for Room Deodorizer

A frugal friend told me about this. Mix half Suavetel (fabric softener) and half water in a spray bottle and shake it a little. It makes a wonderful room freshener! It's lots more economical than the marketed kind.

Room deodorizers and fabric fresheners are quite hazardous. They contain chemicals as well as fragrances that are harmful to the respiratory passages and the lungs. Some people get headaches from them. I know there are many available, but that doesn't mean they are good. Here's one website with information on this: www.ourlittleplace.com/nontoxic.html

Many studies are being done on these items. If you must use some kind of room freshener, use only essential oils and/or natural spices and/or herbs. Your bronchial tubes and lungs will thank you.

I love this idea! I love room deodorizers and I will now do this instead of buying expensive ones.
Thank you so much! PS, I have 2 cats and they are doing fine and healthy. Of course, I don't spay in the room while they are there. But it doesn't bother them at all.

You do NOT want to breathe this stuff! Fabric softeners, both liquid and sheets, contain toxic chemicals. So do commerical room fresheners and fabric fresheners. The chemicals in them, including the scents, can cause hormone disruption, respiratory problems and can affect the nervous system. I researched this very thoroughly for podcasts I did for my last job, and posted a warning against these products last November. Here is a link to that post: www.thriftyfun.com/tf29225487.tip.html

Please use natural methods for room freshening, fabric softening, etc. The commercial products expose us to too many harmful chemicals.

Room deodorizers can get expensive. A friend of mine gave me this tip; fill a spray bottle about half full of fabric freshener; febreeze, suavatel, etc. (I use suavatel). Add water to full mark.

It makes an excellent room deodorizer, and guess what? The fabric refresher people just came out with their own version of this 'homemade thrifty' product (much more expensive, I might add)!
