What can I do with the queen size comforters I have lying in a linen closet--we don't have a queen anymore and I don't want to toss them out. One is a leopard print that I adore, but have no use for.

I don't know what part of the country you live in, but here in Florida we use extra blankets, comforters, etc. to cover plants when the temperature drops. It keeps them warm when it gets icy out.
I am sure your dog would love to snuggle up with a comforter in his dog house during the winter chill. If you don't have a dog, you may want to see if your local Humane Society, dog pound, etc. could use your comforter.
My husband and I are dedicated curbside shoppers and dumpster divers so I keep a blanket or spread in the trunk of my car for when we find something large that needs to be transported on the hood or roof of the car.
You could make a pillow or two out of them (especially the leopard print that you adore).
Or, you could just make some extra money by selling them at the next yard sale you have or by placing an ad in your local classifieds. (One of our local papers lets us have free listings for sale items that are priced at $200 or less.)

How about donating extra blankets, or bedding no longer needed to your local homeless shelter, or to shelters for abused women, or children shelters? I'm sure they would be appreciated!!!
How about making throw pillows out of the comforter and use them on your bed or sofa.
I like having at least an extra comforter around for company to use. When we have a family over or when the kids have friends over for night we have even used extra comforters on the floor instead of a mattress.
I also like to have a comforter on the bed that is the next size larger than what we have. Actually a king size comforter is what we use on our double bed. Then there is lots of extra blanket for both of us to use at night. If you like the print of the queen sized comforter why don't you use it on your double bed?
Also you could attach the leopard print one to an old worn rug/carpet or piece of stiff canvas and make a floor rug for light traffic areas. Or hang as a door or window curtain to keep heat/cold out.

I put one in the trunk of my car. I groceries with it. It shields food from hot weather, and if I have a lot of frozen food, it also aids keeping cold food cold.
Check local animal shelters. We have several dog rescue groups around me that are always looking for blankets, towels, bowls (for food) and such. They will be happy to take your old comforters or towels. They will also give you a tax deduction form that you can claim on your taxes. Help keep a rescued dog warm this winter.
I would use it as a throw on my couch. It would give a whole new look to the room.
I would cut them to the size of your present bed and bind it off. I did this with one of the comforters after dad died. You will have fabric enough for matching pillows.
It is a little difficult to sew a comforter, but you could cut the comforter up and use to cover bed pillows on your new bed. Use one pc for each pillow top, and cheaper brown or tan fabric for the back, to make an 'envelop' type back, the kind you slip the pillow thru the back.
