Removing Sharpie from Closet Doors?

My friend decided to help organize with me and she wrote on my cabinet with Sharpie. I left it there for a year. Now I want it gone. But how?

Rubbing alcohol will take sharpie off almost every type of surface. even clothing. It's a miracle sharpie-remover.

I looked up the problem on the net and it said try toothpaste (regular no gel) rub in and wipe off with clean rag. Your problem will be that its been there a year.

Gel hand sanitizer, like purell or germ-x work wonders. I just tried it on my flatscreen monitor that my little girl had almost blacked out with Sharpie marks lol, and it totally worked! Make sure you saturate it to make it easier.

Did you try a Magic Eraser?

The alcohol has been the secret for years, that's why the hand sanitizer works it's made with a large percentade of alcohol. I have even removed sharpie from photos. (20 years ago they numbered proofs from prof. photogs with Sharpie)

Use a dry erase marker and trace over the Sharpie. That should do it.

My sister wrote on my closet doors a few months ago with a bunch of different colored Sharpies. I've tried rubbing alcohol, baking soda, and the Magic Eraser and the Sharpie is faded, but still very noticeable. What would be a good way to get off the Sharpie without taking the paint off my doors?

I don't think you can. You're probably going to have to repaint the door. (05/14/2009)

A person on this post suggests a product called Sol-U-Mel will work to get rid of Sharpie marks. (05/15/2009)
