Less Expensive Treatment for Rosacea?

Gold Feedback Medal for All Time! 949 Feedbacks

I have been diagnosed with mild Rosacea and prescribed Finacea. I found this to be very expensive and understand I will have to use it forever. Does anyone have experience with treating Rosacea with something less expensive?

I don't know about the comparative costs, but I have been using Metrogel for my rosacea for years with good results.

I have rosacea too. I use Tea Tree Oil soap from Trader Joe's ($3.50 for 2 good size bars). I think it has helped. You can use very diluted tea tree oil on your face also (it has antiseptic properties). Also, certain foods aggravate my rosacea, such as very hot and/or spicey foods, & alcohol.

Sitting in the sun also aggravtes my rosacea. I never found that the creams (such as Metrogel) that the dermatologist recommended worked. For a while I was on a daily low dose antibiotic - I am not sure if that worked. One good thing is that my face has gotten better as I get older.

Just now I happened across this query and I hope that you see my reply.

I'm very much into using herbal remedies however and wherever I can. Some of the herbs (sometimes known as weeds) are right in your backyard. Plantain is one that I literally will not be without. A Google search will introduce you to the plant and it's medicinal properties.

One of my granddaughters had a problematic case of acne that could not be relieved. Plantain came to the rescue. It's said to be helpful with rosacea too so you may want to consider trying it.

For the acne, I thoroughly clean the plantain leaves then puree them in an old coffee grinder. I then mix the puree into whatever cream or lotion I happen to have in the house; recently I used Alpen Goat Milk Body Lotion.

Kaitlyn's skin, especially in the forehead area where she had the biggest problem, is 99% acne free. And done with a backyard weed !!!
