I have just started searching my family background and need a way to get it all organized. Have you used any of the software programs that are sold? I need something user friendly and that doesn't cost a lot of money.

I use Family Tree Maker. I do like it but am going to have to update to a newer version. I'm not sure if you will find an inexpensive version. I would google the topic and see what you come up with.
Try finding something on eBay, usually less money, but you will need to compare. You may not need the latest version. Just make sure it will work on your model computer.
I use Family Tree Maker, too. The older versions are good and much cheaper than the newer versions.
