It sounds as if you might have had an animal crawl under the house and die. Do you have a crawl space under the house? If so, you will have to go under there to find out what it is and remove it. If you don't feel like you can do this yourself, call an exterminator. They regularly remove dead animals from under houses for customers. (My husband once had a job with an exterminator and had to do this quite a few times.)

Many years ago our family cat disappeared and we never knew what happened. Turned out that she went about a block away and crawled under someone's porch and died.

They discovered her when they investigated the odor.

I agree with the post from "txSavr", but if you are not able to crawl under your house or can't afford to call an exterminator or are elderly there are many wonderful community resources & churches that can help out. Call your local Senior center if your older & they can refer you to help... or ask around at your church or a friends church. You may also call the Salvation Army or your local county Animal Control or even the Health Department.

Don't worry, no one will need to come in to your house unless that's the only way to enter your crawl space. But if someone DOES have to enter your home to enter the crawl space or get under your home, be sure to have a friend there with you & never tell anyone you live alone!

* Take care of this NOW, it will only get much worse when the weather warms up!

Use lime. You can buy it at a hardware store and it will help neutralize the odor.
