I have a 12 year old Kenmore double door frig with through the door ice. Can I get it make more ice or make ice faster?

Doesn't it have a metal rod on the side of the ice maker or the ice tray? Most do. Up means stop making ice. Down means start making ice. Don't know if this helps.
