Using Foil Covered Cardboard to Reflect Radiator Heat?

Bronze Request Medal for All Time! 65 Requests

I was reading somewhere on TF that if you covered cardboard in foil shiny side out it will help throw out more heat from radiators. Do you cut the card the length of the radiator and how far down the radiator do you place it? Silly questions, but it sounds like a good idea to try in this freezing weather. Many thanks.

Place a foil-covered piece of cardboard behind each radiator. The shiny side of the foil should be facing the radiator, and the cardboard should be leaning slightly backwards against the wall.

After a couple of hours, adjust the thermostat if necessary. It should feel noticeably warmer in the center of each room with a heat reflector. Good luck.

Make it as deep and wide as you can get in behind. Also a small shelf a few inches above the radiator helps direct the heat out into the room. (You can get slot-on ones if you're not handy). Then sit back and enjoy the snow! All the best.

I don't know about the foil but we have used cardboard to make it warmer.
