Quick and Easy Easter Eggs

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 213 Posts

If kids stop by and you need a quick and easy project that's done with supplies you already have around the house, here's a less messy way to color Easter eggs. All you'll need are eggs, markers, water. Instead of the mess that comes with "Dipping" Easter eggs, color them with watercolor markers.

To begin, they can draw a design or name on their egg with a white or colored crayon. Next have your kids draw or scribble on their eggs with the watercolor markers. To have even more fun, they can blend these colors together by using plain water and spraying, dripping or painting the colored eggs with the plain water. I like to take an old toothbrush that's been dipped into water and "splatter" my colored egg... This "water-blending" is what really makes the eggs look special!

I've had countless hours of fun with kids using this technique! If you don't have the time to hard-boil the eggs, you can make Hollow Eggs. You probably remember doing something like this when you were young. Simply poke a hole at each end of the egg with a sharp knife, then with a toothpick, paintbrush, crochet hook or something thin, pop the yolk and scramble some of the insides of the egg. Next, with your mouth, "Blow" the insides of the egg out into a clean bowl. (Refrigerate the scrambled eggs for making omelets later) I like "hollow eggs" better than hard-boiled because they last forever. It's fun to glue string or run string through the hollowed out eggs to make a multicolored "Egg Mobile" to hang in their room. "Blow-eggs" can be sprayed with a clear spray paint to preserve the artwork.
