Reuse Old Carpet and Area Rugs

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 204 Posts

Old carpet and rugs that are still in decent condition make a nice addition to a porch, laundry room, or even in the garage in front of a tool bench. If you can't use it, maybe you know someone who can.

My parents also put long strips of old carpet beside their cars in the garage. That way if their feet are dirty or wet, they'll be wiped off before they get into the car, or conversely, before they get into the house.

we cut up the old carpet to use at the bottom of our steps into the camper, cleans your shoes before going into the camper and before you leave the campsite the peice of carpet can go in the garbage.

And they make good "paths" in the garden or for mulch in area's that you want to kill off weeds. Most will disintegrate into the soil in a few years. Another choice is to cut into smaller pieces to cover cage bottoms for dogs/cats at the animal shelters or Vets offices.

Be sure to call and ask them first if they need them. GG Vi

I added a braided border to an old rug that was still in good shape and I get many compliments on it

I agree that old carpets can be used to kill weeds instead of toxic herbicides. And if you keep it on all season you can kill off pathogens. It is called "solarizing" your soil.
