Baking Soda Mixture For Fleas On Carpet

Got fleas? Try this.

  • 1 cup Arm and Hammer pet carpet fresh with OxiClean
  • 1 cup Arm and Hammer baking soda
  • 1 cup baby talcum powder
  • 1 cap full of salt (popcorn salt is a light powder and mixes better)
  • 1 cap garlic powder
  • 1 coffee, grits, or oatmeal container to make a shaker.

Mix everything together. Shake a dusting on bedding, carpet, upholstery. Let sit for 24 hours, then vacuum.

Wash bedding and other linens in Dawn dish detergent. Even bathing your pet in Dawn will remove fleas.

Repeat in 3 days, then again in 7days, and again in a month removing any eggs or larva. This mixture will leave your home smelling Arm and Hammer fresh and your home and pet flea free.

P.S.: A little garlic powder in your pet's food at least once a week will help them fight fleas and is healthy for them.

Editor's Note: Garlic for pets is a controversial issue. Some veterinarians encourage it's use and others consider it poison. Please discuss this with your own vet in order to make an informed decision regarding its use.

So true with the garlic in pet food, my dog hasn't had fleas since got her 4 years ago!

The best flea treatment I found for pets is Denorex dandruff shampoo, you soap them up good, let sit 10 min and rinse, may have to repeat a second time, but it is safe and can be used on seniors as well as tiny babies that can't have traditional flea dips etc...I have used it on litters.

If you have animals round the house, try sprinkling a little baking soda on the carpet about 30 minutes before you vacuum. This will help release the pet hair. If you have a flea problem, you can add salt (I use ground up scented Epson Salts) to the baking soda. The salt will dehydrate the fleas and also make your carpet smell fresh. You can also leave a little salt on the carpet to help with the fleas.
