Just go to the interent and type in "placemat purses" to find patterns.
I have made clutch style purses of place mats by folding over the place mats to shape the purse and stitching the sides. The fold is about 1/3 up to make a pouch to hold your things stitched on the edges and then 1/3 down over the top to form the front. Add a large pretty button to the bottom and stitch some pretty cord to make a loop to go around the button snugly for a closure. Lay it out before starting to check placement. Hope this helps!
