Where Should I Sell My Jewelry?

Hi, I am 12 and I recently started making my own jewelry. I was wondering if you think it would be better to sell my jewelry online on a site like at ebay, or craigslist, or is it better to sell outside? Thanks for your help! =)

On eBay, a portion of fee goes to eBay, and you need good fotos. On CL there's the issue of receiving payment before shipping, or vice versa. What about selling via craft faires and street faires?

Perhaps, if your stuff is really nice, you could persuade some small shops to sell it on consignment.

You could also set up like a yard sale and put an inexpensive ad in the paper stating "craft table". Have your friends make some stuff too that way you have a variety of things.

Choose to do it at a house (your's, a friend's or family member) that is on a busy street. Good Luck. :)

I have some friends who make jewelry. One problem with fairs is you do have to pay a fee to open a booth. My friends have also found it difficult to get shops to display their work, but it could be a matter of fit--if the style of your jewelry matches the style of a shop, you may have better luck. Here is the web page of one person I know who makes jewelry:
www.bastetsbeads.com/
You can see that she uses a combination of website and E-bay.

As a twelve-year-old, you have some advantages and disadvantages. You may have difficulty in some situations that require someone to be an adult, or you may have difficulty in getting people to take you seriously, so you may need to find a trustworthy adult to work with you. On the other hand, you may be able to find a way to bank on the cute factor--people love to buy things from cute kids.

You may think you are beyond that stage (it's not like you're three anymore), but trust me, you still have some of that. And adults admire young people who are being industrious and want to reward them.

How about garage sales? You could look in the paper (there may be an online version if you don't get the paper) on Fridays. If there are any garage sales in your neighborhood, try contacting the person giving the sale and asking if you can set up a table there to sell your jewelry. You could even offer to give them a percentage of your earnings (a small percentage). That way you have no up-front expense that could sink you.

My aunt makes jewelry bracelets and she sells them to her friends at work, family and at gatherings. Garage sale is another way. good luck.

Hi Zeney, that's great that you have such talent and want to make jewelry to sell; however as far as ebay goes, you need to be 18 to join and to sell. You could of course have your parents do for you but you cannot at age 12. I have bought handmade jewelry at garage sales when the price has been right!

There are holiday craft fairs coming up at schools and churches and you might be able to set up a booth and try your luck.

Perhaps one or both of your parents would be willing to show your wares at their work.

Good luck!

Hi there Zeney :) I've been a crafter most of my life and when I was a teenager, I was trying to get into the jewelry making crafts...I never did get very far...it seemed to be a little complicating to me. I think it is really great that you are using your talents for creativity such as this...each person has unique ideas and being able to present your uniqueness through a craft is very good for you and for those who come across your beautiful works of art! Keep it up...online sales may be difficult for you at your age presently...unless maybe a relative or friend over 18 can help get you set up on something like ebay. which would deffinately be helpful for you if someone would, but ebay does charge fees and sometimes makes some people a little concerned that it will cost more than it will actually help market your talents. I'm not sure what your area is like, but keep an eye out for some of the local shops in your area, that sale collectibles, and gift items.

It doesn't hurt to ask and the more asking you do the more knowledge you will gain...ask if they offer consignments in there shop, and tell them your goals of selling your handcrafted items. ask for advice, even if they refuse to do consignments alot of the time they are willing to throw some great hints and advice your way :) also ask around, possibly teachers, and others in your life...people are usually willing to give a word of advice, an idea, or a hand if they can. also check out some crafters magazines if you come across any....sometimes they list contests and things such as that, for you to enter, I know it is not a guaruntee of sale...but it will get your name out there and possibly give you even more ideas on where you could market your crafts and how to get started. Good luck to you sweetie. God bless and don't give up your talent for anyone.

There is a craft site for selling called etsy.com. You could check out their costs.

I started off having jewelry parties through friends and their friends, as well as my hair dresser sold some in her salon. However some hair salons don't allow it. With your age being under 16 get your parents permission and you can set up a myspace account or ebay account. You can also create your own web page at web.com but it's a little pricey. Make fliers of your jewelry and put them in mailboxes with contact numbers for them to reach you you can also put fliers up in local convenient stores and what not too. Hopefully this helps! Just remember with your age to always get your parents permission first. Also if your parents allow it, you can go to your local court house and get a business license number and when you go to craft shows and beads shows and stuff you can get discounts :-) Have a great day.

I use to sell Shackly products, instant protein & etc,I went to all the laundromats(where people wash clothes) every 2 hours every day, I sold $100 each day. You have to go where people are. Good luck.
