My husband travels frequently for work, and when he does, he will bring home the unused, new, packaged shower caps. Whenever I have to cover a large food item, like a tray of brownies, I use the new shower cap to cover the top. It fits perfectly, and unlike plastic wrap, will stay secure and in place.

I wouldn't let it touch the food. Never use plastic against food that wasn't made for food. Today's plastic contains many chemicals that were not in them 50 years ago.
I agree with what Lilac said. Only use food-grade plastic on food.
