Swiffer Wet Jet Stopped Working?

I have a Swiffer Wet Jet and love it. I have been using vinegar and water in the bottle. It just stopped one day, so I bought another one, and the same thing happened. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you think it is the vinegar and water?

I sure hope someone posts an answer, because I just bought one and plan on doing this too. I'd like to head any problems off before they happen.

vinegar and water is what I have used for a long time. 1/2 cup white vinegar to 1 gal. of water is the mixture that was recommened to me.
Now our jet is not working at all.

new batteries, no corrosion. Looks like I will have to purchase a new one. this one is only19 months old.

First Batteries. If not, pin in heads of sprayers. Then I used Canned air and blew it our from where the bottle is put in. Worked like a charm.

I have had 2 of the Swiffer Wet Jets stop working. It was not related to batteries. I did the hack in regard to the cleaning solution. I mixed vinegar, alcohol and water, which makes a great cleaner, but apparently is damaging to the Wet Jet.

I am not going to use vinegar in the future. I bought a quart of Fabuloso to mix with water only. Hopefully that will resolve the issue. I firmly believe vinegar is the reason for the Wet Jet failure.

Vinegar will damage the motor, so try something other vinegar in the solution hack. I learned the hard way after two wet jet failures

The instructions say to use only the Swiffer fluid; any other will cause the machine to stop working.

Vinegar and water are not harmful to the unit. If it has stopped working ,its more than likely Power sourse, batteries dead ,battery contacts ,,,,dirty,,,not making a connection,or loose fitting , spray heads are clogged, or feed is plugged,

Not a NASA built unit ,very crude design, It will break

hello, your post from some time ago caught my attention on the swiffer wetjet..also using a vinegar solution, same thing happened to me, it stopped working? thought it was batteries, nope, tried cleaning nozzle heads, nope..I have a laminate floor that streaks with most cleaners, this vinegar is the only thing that does not, that's why I use it...going back to exchange for another, did you ever gets yours to work with vinegar and water, I want to use this solution once again with the new mop..please advise if you can, frustrating...thanks...

I had bought a floor steamer, made by a different company. It worked for a long time, then I started adding vinegar to the water (just a cap full) - and within the next 10 times I used it, it stopped working. So my guess is vinegar does something to the systems.

But I used regular white vinegar - I wonder if using cleaning vinegar would be any different?

I've found that the solution leaks onto the motor and corrodes it. I haven't found a DIY solution to this design flaw so far...

I purchased ours in May of THIS YEAR (2020); used it just fine with my DIY Vinegar/Water solution. Hadn't used it in a few weeks so went to use it today - - NOTHING!! Not even making any sound at all when I press the buttons. Tried changing batteries - - NOTHING! I'm thinking this thing is DEAD after only SIX MONTHS of use!!

November 28, 20200 found this helpful

BUMMER!! I'm beginning to wonder if it's the Vinegar/Water cleaning hack actually now?? I've only had ours for SIX MONTHS and it's DEAD!!

November 28, 20200 found this helpful

Same for me!! I'm seeing a TON of posts from those of us who bought into the Vinegar/Water hack idea!! CLEARLY it's not good for the Swifter!! BUMMER!

I've used mine once using Swiffer floor cleaner only and it stopped working. Tried the vinegar toothpick trick and changed the brand new batteries just in case; no go. Now I guess I have to return it and it sounds like a recurring problem. We need to report to Swiffer so they know how many paying customers are being ripped off. They won't know until we tell them demanding our money back. Good luck ladies and gentlemen who clean.

My wetjet did this too after about six months of regular use. I did two things. First I cleaned the end where the cleaner squirts out (it was slightly clogged) and then I changed the batteries. Worked like a charm after that. Hope this helps.

I'm trying to put the four batteries in but I don't know what's negative what's up what's down it says Plus they all say plus what do I do

December 24, 20200 found this helpful

I did the battery check and though brand new (used once) I changed them out. Did the vinegar toothpick to the squirter, no clog but did it. Still not working. Help!

I had one stop working on me too. I went and bought another one. It wouldn't work either. Had my "My Blonde Moment". Check the batteries! Now they BOTH work Great!

Thank you thriftyfun! I have mastered the art of unclogging swiffer wet jets. First, rise off the jets with hot water and stick a pin up into each jet. I used a quilting pin because they are thin and about 1.5 inches long and have a nice round head so it's easy to pull it in and out. Then I replaced all four AA batteries. The swiffer wet jet requires fresh batteries. (Still cheaper than paying someone else to mop my floor.) Now both of my wet jets work like new. I had bought the second one before accepting that this problem required some research.

October 16, 20190 found this helpful

I did same thing; got a quilting needle, changed the batteries & then I slammed it on the floor a couple of times & it worked!

March 8, 20220 found this helpful

How in the world does a pin / needle for into the hole?

April 30, 20131 found this helpful

The idea of changing the batteries is essential. Your WetJet may sound like the batteries are good yet not work. Changing the batteries magically brings it back to life!

January 28, 20192 found this helpful

I changed the batteries unclogged cleaned the connectors and still not working. This wetjet is practically new!

December 24, 20200 found this helpful

Same here and I used this once before it stopped working. So very disappointed.

October 8, 20141 found this helpful

I think I may have figured out the solution. Yes, make sure your batteries aren't dead, but you might try pushing the liquid dispenser while moving the mop back and forth. I find that when I want a ton of liquid in one area I'll stop to squeeze squeeze squeeze, and that's when it stops working, but if I am continuously moving the mop then the liquid will dispense. Hope this helps and hopefully it's the solution.

I just bought a basic swiffer wetjet and it does not work. Batteries came with it are maybe not working. What kind of crap is that. Never will buy anything from swiffer again.

March 5, 20158 found this helpful

I was so very frustrated by this, then I found out what was wrong. I tried new batteries. Still nothing. The thing is new so I was pretty sure it wasn't clogged jets, but I cleaned them anyway. I took the batteries out and out them back in.

Then I discovered the miracle cure. Take a look at that little door on the newer models behind which you place the batteries. After you put in the new batteries, make sure you slide the door all the way down. You will hear a click. If the door is only being held closed by the bottle, it will not work.

I dont get I bought this brand new and cant get to work I dont see where is this door your talking about I dont see it

January 24, 20183 found this helpful

The vinegar is definitely the culprit. I have gone through 2 Wet Jets and will no longer use vinegar in my cleaning solution hack.

July 22, 20230 found this helpful

Hey a little late. I use straight vinegar. Mine stopped working as well.
I took a spray bottle of water and washed the area were the bottle goes, started working again. my suggestion it to take the bottle off after each use and spray in a little water and hang to dry.
