Ask for Makeup Samples

I have been feeling a little guilty about spending money on make up with my husband losing his job recently, but I was talking to one of the sales people at my local Ulta and she said do not hesitate to ask for samples and try before I buy. This is a great idea, after all I would not buy a dress without trying it on. Also, take advantage of coupons in your Sunday newspaper for make up items.

Another thing to consider expensive is not always better. I do my research and compare products by searching the internet. I have found some great buys for far less money by doing my research first. Be careful where you buy and make sure they have a return policy on make up. Keep your proof of purchase in a envelope until you know the product works for you. Walgreens and CVS are very good about exchanging make up.

Just my humble opinion, but when my husband was out of work and I only had a part-time job, make-up was one of the things on my do-not-buy-luxury-items list. The only money I would spend at that time was for absolute necessities. Guess it's all a matter of priorities.

Have found that if I mention that I have to try because of my sensitive skin that they are more receptive. What they give out depends upon the store, the samples on hand & the salesperson.I also get lots of samples on the net.

Attend makeup parties like avon, etc for free samples.

I would just like to let you know that I understand how you feel. My case is a little worse because I am planning my wedding and my fiance' lost his job and I love to buy makeup. LOL. I found this really nice website that is selling their makeup for only a buck, yes only $1.00. It is www.elf.com

I love makeup too, and the best thing I do is swapping on Makeupalley.com . I have gotten things that I have been looking for and gotten rid of stuff I don't use.

And its true that more expensive is not always better. I remember reading where they said to trust the drugstore brands when it comes to items like face care products, because they have a much bigger company than department stores and designer lines. Those higher end lines may charge a lot, but they don't have nearly the number of customers as the drugstore brands. This means the drug store lines have more money to invest in creating, testing, and making better products.

The best place I have found to get free samples, and the best return policy is from your local Avon rep. They may not have the sample on hand that you need, but they can get it, and you can return or exchange any item that has been opened and tried if it isn't the right color, does not work well for you, etc.

I do agree with the previous poster though, that it should be passed on until finances improve.

I would love to do that but here in Portugal stores don't give you samples unless you buy something and expensive! And they give one or two samples only! I'd love that they give some samples from times to times.

Bonnie, cool tip. May I add that you can save on lipstick by using a lip liner brush to brush out the last bit of lipstick out of the lip stick tube. That will save money too. And always use one color eyeshadow to match eye color or hair color. Not the clothing. It will help save money too. And you wouldn't have to use different shades for anything else. Anyway, your tip is so cool I hope it wins.
