I have a Shih-Apso dog and it stinks up my house. What should I do?

How often do you bathe your fur baby and clean inside the flaps of his/her ears (you mention the baby only as 'it')? Poochies need to be kept clean just like we humans do.

I've had two dogs in the past three decades. The indoor/outdoor dog needed to bathed weekly and the indoor (only wanted to go out for a quick walk to poddy) dog only needed to be bathed every other week.

The kind of dog that is shampooed and 2 days later your hand smells putrid when you pet him? I can only tell you what i was told and what worked for us. Immediately. Horsepaste (ivermectin) Some use ivermectin as a home remedy for worms in general. You must be sure there is no heartworm present in your dog as the medicine would kill heartworm too quickly and cause an embolism.

I was told this impossible stink was caused by an organism under the skin that is not harmful to the pet, only putrefies him. I had 2 dogs with this condition and it was amazing. Measurement is very small out of the tube of paste. You may end up with a split pea size measurement or on a 50 pounder a measurement more like a green pea. Just do it as closely as you can. I understand it is not critical to measure to the last speck. Keep me posted please.

You didn't give much information, but depending on what the smell is-
There is the usual bad smells- rolling in something ( poop, a dead animal, dead grass or leaves) skunk, but then the unusual smell I discovered with my maltese.

If your baby smells like cheetos, ( I know that is the only way to describe it) it could be an allergy. I can tell when he has been into something he is allergic to because he gives off that smell. I find if I comb him extra it will get rid of the smell only temporarily. I wash him, but the smell comes back, it won't go away until the culprit is out of his system.

If he is not getting into something and he is only eating his dog food (Orijen Fish) he only smells like his shampoo and everyone is happy.

To get rid of dog smells in the home:
What I have found that works , I spray white vinegar daily on the furniture, bedding, carpet, anything he /she lays on. I also de-hair the furniture daily. At first, you might want to sprinkle a mixture baking soda and kosher salt on the carpet and baking soda on the furniture, I use an old spice container from Costco. Let it set for 30 minutes, then vacuum.

I use my Oreck and run it over the furniture. Use your vacuum attachments if you can't lift your vacuum.

I find if I do this, my house doesn't smell. I don't find anything on the market does better than white vinegar and baking soda.
Hope this helps.

After bathing your dog try using a diluted rinse that contains white vinegar or put the vinegar in a spray bottle and spray all the dog's fur and rinse off.

Are you sure it's not rolling into anything outside to get the odor? What kind of dog food are you using?

Wash him, then sniff him. It may be a bad infection or gum disease. You never know what fur hides; he could've gotten into anything or hurt himself. You didn't say what he smelled like. lol

The Anal Glands may need to be emptied. The Vet or a dog grooming place can do it for you if you don't know how to. When you give them a bath and they still smell, the glands are usually the culprit.
