Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hot water

  • 1 egg, well beaten

  • 3 1/2-4 sifted flour

Directions:

Combine hot water, salt, shortening and sugar. Cool to lukewarm, then add yeast softened in lukewarm water. Add the egg, half the flour and beat well. Stir in more of the flour, enough to make a dough that is easily handled. Grease top of dough and cover.

Store in refrigerator (it will keep for about 1 week). Cut off dough as needed, letting it stand in a warm place for about 1 hour before using. Then shape into rolls in a pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place (covered with a damp cloth or loose-fitting plastic wrap) until it's double in size. Bake in hot oven (400 degree F) for 12-15 minutes.
