Running Corel Photohouse 3 on a Vista Computer?

I tried to get my Vista OS computer to run Corel Photohouse 3. It says that there needs to be a registry entry to get it to run properly and to use Regedit for this.

I haven't a clue how to do this. Can someone advise me?

Thanks guys.

Okay, first you need to know that regedit is a program inherent to all windows operating systems. All you need to do is click on the Microsoft emblem down on the bottom left and in the area you would normally type something to search for you type regedit and hit enter. the second thing and possibly the absolutely most important thing to know about regedit is, if you don't know what you are doing be very, very, very careful. You could easily screw up your operating system. That said, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of doing something this delicate to your computer find someone else to do it for you.

OK - that said do you get any type of error message specifics when you try to run Corel or does it just say basically you need to fix the registry and good luck?

Tell you what, send me a private message through Thrifty Fun with your email address and I will help you get that bugger running. :) That is, if you want my help.

Let me give you some details about using Regedit. You usually have to find a specific entry and modify it or you need to add an entry that was not there to begin with in order to make the program work or perform specifically. For example, my kids wanted to play a particular game on the PC but it wa in Japanese. Changing one number to another number in the registry changed the games text to English. I had to do a lot of looking around on the internet to find out what and how to do that but I did. But the Windows registry is not something you want to play around in. Like I said, it can seriously fudge up a PC.

As Suntydt pointed out, you can screw up your 'puter messing with the Registry if you don't know what you're doing.. however, if you have a knowledgable friend you can let them have remote control of your computer to make the changes. Have no fear, you will see everything they are doing and you have 100% control of the mouse [sort of like 2 steering wheels in a Driver's Ed car], plus by paying attention to what they're doing, you'll be learning something..

Apparently this problem has reared its head all the way up to version 6. Here is the answer I found. It is actually in two parts (2 different user responses), please read both. This process does not require you to mess with regedit / windows registry.

Hi Paule
Since we re-installed Print House and ran under Win95 compatibility mode, our problems ceased. Suggest you uninstall the Corel package, insert CD1 and before installing, change the properties of the setup file to make it Win95 compatible. Once installed, make the Printhse.exe. file and Photohse.exe file run under Win95 - be sure not to only change the properties of the shortcuts on your desktop if you created these, but the actual .exe files under ProgramFiles/Corel.

Hope this works for you as our issues seem to be sorted out
All the best

Hi Liphi,
I did it the following way: insert your Corel Print House 6 installation CD. If it starts up automatically, cancel the installation. Open explorer and go to the CD contents. Select "Setup" and right-click on it, go for "properties", go to the compatibility tab and set it to Windows 95. Now you double-click on setup and it should install with Windows 95 compatibility. It worked for me.
After the installation, you will also need to ensure that the program itself runs with Windows 95 compatibility.
Success!
