Go to rit.com and look at their ideas and recommendations. They do not have to use salt. That is what us old schoolers use out of habit to ensure no fading.Wash the blanket, have it wet. Take out of washer. Fill washer full of hot water to not top of the line. Need room for the blanket. You will need 4 boxes or 2 bottles of liquid of the color. Slowly put into the washer, use a wire wisk to mix it. Agitate 30 sec. Add the blanket to the washer. Start washer up. Now trip the fill up button to full, may not need any more.

Watch the wash cycle, start it over when it gets ready to dump out. Keep rewashing a couple of times to ensure color. When you are happy with the color (lift up with kitchen tongs to see), then dump the water to the drain. After it spins out and gonna fill for rinse, put it back in the wash cycle for the hot water again, you can add some salt here if you want. This will set the color so future washes should be safe.
After washing, hang on line or dryer dry.
If using a dark color, fill washer up to top, add 1 cup bleach, and wash as normal. Stop after wash cycle. This should clean it fine.
