Stuck Together Tortillas?

I have bought tortilla wraps and they are stuck in the middle. There is no way to get them apart with out ripping them! Any suggestions?

Maybe. Try spriziting with water then Microwave for
30 seconds and see if you can peel them apart.

I'm not sure I can explain this, but I'll try. Hold the bundle of tortillas by the sides, one hand on each side, directly across from each other (3 o'clock and 9 o'clock). Then fold/roll them from one side to the other (this is the hard part to describe).

It's like you're making them to "the wave" between your hands. Then turn the bundle 1/4 turn and roll them again. They should naturally come apart. This works for both corn and flour tortillas.

The WAVE gets my vote. A single bend in the middle won't do it it needs a double bend back and forth, rotate and repeat. Perfect. Thanks for the help.

We keep ours in the freezer. With most but not all brands, they can be separated by sticking a butter knife between them and twisting the knife to pry them apart.

Microwaving tortillas (and other breads) tends to make them tough, especially if you don't eat them right away, so be careful with that method.

If you add water they soften up before you microwave

Just dampen the tortillas that are stuck together and put in microwave, cover with dampened paper towel for 10-15 seconds, they should peel right apart without tearing. I keep a spray bottle in my kitchen with water for lightly spraying things, like sticky tortilla's.

It can be avoided by using Winlon 100% USA made liner

I've seen various methods suggested for separating tortillas that glom together and some (to my experience) are better than others. However, I just found the most effective way yet.

Take your unopened package(s) of tortillas and place them in the sunlight. Depending on ambient conditions, the number of tortillas in your package, and whether the tortillas are frozen or not, the tortillas will be ready to separate in a half-hour or so. The tortillas should feel warm before you try to separate them.

I leave unfrozen packages of 12 tortillas, in the sun for about 15 minutes, then turn over the package and let it soak up the sun for another 15 minutes.

The end up very easy to separate; with almost no cling at all. The result is tortillas without a single blemish.

PARI Olefins in Texas manufacturer tortilla separators to keep tortilla sticking and fresh. Also using these sheets you can freeze and separate them

If they still stick after you roll side to side just throw them on got griddle the whole stack, and flip. They well peel off as they warm up

You must palperate them. This means that you use your fingers to gentle palpate back a forth between the tortillas until they are separated. You palpate with your fingers in order to gently separate them.

According to John Kliewer you will need to palperate the tortillas with your fingers, slowly work your fingers between each tortilla.

Hey Lori,
Nothing worse than a torn tortilla. Palperate with your fingers back and forth to get them separated. Without being torn they should puff up nicely on the skillet. :)
