Cosmetics at Yard Sales and Thrift Shops

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 519 Posts

Don't overlook thrift shops or yard sales as sources of cosmetics or other beauty products. I found 2 new Lancome lipsticks and a variety of little Lancome eye shadows, brand new, in a basket in a thrift shop over the holidays! And I have found bath salts and so on at yard sales, too.

This is a great idea if, as the poster says, the products are new and unused. If they've been used, it's a terrible idea since eye makeup and lipsticks can harbor bacteria.

Agreed. Beware of buying cosmetics at garage sales or flea markets, when not stored properly they can go bad. Ebay & Tagsellit both have rules against selling used cosmetics on their websites.

I would advise against buying cosmetics at yard sales and thrift shops unless they are brand new and sealed (never opened).

I wouldn't buy it new and/or unused, because makeup doesn't have that long of a shelf life. I went to beauty school and you should always discard mascara after 3 months, I do this with all of my cosmetics.
